| Late last year, Janssen
started drawing up a preliminary study
for two new research buildings in
Beerse, a result of the company's
tighter focus on forward-looking areas
of research. Vigorous investment in
new research buildings, namely the
Discovery Research Center (DRC) and
the Drug Safety Evaluation Center
(DSEC), is the logical consequence
of that decision.
Early this year, Janssen began preparing
for the construction of the larger
of the two buildings, the DRC, which
will take up a surface area of 16,470
m2.

The laboratories
housed in it will meet the strictest
requirements and should enable Janssen
to attract highly qualified scientists
from all over the world. The aim is
to have some 285 R&D staff move
into the new Discovery Research Center
in the spring of 2004.
On July 3, Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt
paid a visit to Beerse to lay the
first stone for the project, the most
prestigious in the company's history.
In his speech he stressed both the
importance of investing in drug research
for the well-being of all and the
role that Janssen Pharmaceutica, Janssen-Cilag
and Johnson & Johnson can play
in this context. |
