On September 12, 2006, Johnson & Johnson announced that Craig C. Mello, Ph. D., a professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, MA, and an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, as the inaugural recipient of The Dr. Paul Janssen Award for Biomedical Research, at The Dr. Paul Janssen Biomedical Research Scientific Symposium and Award Program, a major scientific symposium, press conference and award event in Beerse, Belgium.
The event also commemorated the 80th anniversary of Dr. Janssen's birth.
Attended by more than 300 people, including Mrs. Janssen, Dr. Paul Stoffels, Dr. Ted Torphy, Sir Richard Sykes, the event featured presentations by
Dr. Mello and other prominent scientists in the field of RNAi.
