Strong Financial Results
Janssen Pharmaceutica realizes the major portion of its turnover within the Johnson & Johnson group. This turnover rose to 2.1 billion euros, of which 95% came from exports. Net profit amounted to 346 million euros. The payroll rose by 26 million euros to 418 million euros.
The cash flow amounted to 985 million euros. The evolution of the cash flow over the past years indicates that the company is in good financial health.

In April, the Drug Safety Evaluation Center on the Beerse campus was opened, an investment of 40 million euros, which concluded the series of investments in new research buildings over the past few years. |

In June, the High Containment Production Chain, representing an investment of 30 million euros, came on line at the company’s Geel site. This coincided with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the opening of the active ingredients plant at this site. |

In October, the 20th anniversary of the pharmaceutical plant in Xian, China was celebrated. |
In 2006, Janssen Pharmaceutica won the Most Attractive Belgian Employer Award, a few weeks after Xian-Janssen in China was presented with a similar award.
Investing in Research - a Promising Pipeline
The Belgian investment in R&D reached a record 1,067 million euros, an increase of 129 million euros. Johnson & Johnson's pipeline includes promising new drugs, particularly for cancer, internal medicine and central nervous system disorders
Thanks to close cooperation with other companies in the Johnson & Johnson group, completely new and innovative therapies based on existing molecules are being marketed for the treatment of pain, schizophrenia and other disorders.
Several major developments were successfully launched internationally, such as DUROGESIC MATRIX® (for the management of chronic pain), VELCADE® (treatment of multiple myeloma) and RISPERDAL CONSTA® (treatment of schizophrenia).
IONSYS® (for the management of postoperative pain) was one of the company’s new drugs to receive European regulatory approval this year, while PREZISTA® (Tibotec’s new AIDS inhibitor) was approved by the US authorities.
Sustainable Development
Janssen Pharmaceutica and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development also published their third annual Sustainability Report on activities carried out in Belgium. Based on 36 key performance indicators, the report provides an overview of the progress achieved with reference to business results, social affairs and the environment.
In terms of safety, energy, quality and the environment, the company passed all the inspections with flying colors. Furthermore, the Belgian plants of Janssen Pharmaceutica won Johnson & Johnson’s prestigious Worldwide Sustainability Award for the seventh year running, something that no other affiliate in the group has ever achieved.
The company also switched over to green, non-fossil energy for all its research and production facilities in Belgium.
Janssen Pharmaceutica became the first building project owner to sign the Safety Charter of the National Action Committee for Safety and Hygiene in the Construction Industry, together with representatives of the Belgian authorities and other parties from the construction industry.
Johnson & Johnson's Results
In 2005, Johnson & Johnson realized a turnover of 50.5 billion dollars.
With a turnover of 22.3 billion dollars, the pharmaceutical group accounted for 44% of this sales volume and thus ranked as the fifth largest pharmaceutical company in the world.
Within the Johnson & Johnson group, Janssen Pharmaceutica is a worldwide Center of Excellence for integrated R&D, production and general services. In Belgium, the company has sites in Beerse, Geel and Olen. It has a total of 4,715 employees. In addition, 230 persons work at Janssen-Cilag in Berchem, which is responsible for the Belgian and Luxemburg markets.
