For Xian-Janssen, this award represents the pinnacle of its 20th jubilee year, which was celebrated last October in the presence, among others, of officials of the administration of the province of Antwerp. In addition, King Albert honored Xian-Janssen with a visit earlier this year.
The selection process started in October and ended on Dec. 29, 2005. The selection proceeded through various steps.

niversity students in all the big cities were interviewed. The Beijing University Research Center for Social Studies conducted the enquiry. |

A selection committee of 100 experts from various disciplines did a final analysis and made recommendations accordingly. |

On the basis of a shortlist of 40 companies, CCTV and Beijing University performed a qualitative study in each of these through conversations with employees and their supervisors about the personnel policy and working conditions. Each company was visited for several days. |
The award itself was announced on Jan. 4 at 8 o’clock p.m. on CCTV. This television station is the biggest in China and boasts of up to 1.1 billion viewers.
Siong Hin Chong, President of Xian-Janssen, was delighted by this honor: “This award demonstrates again the excellent reputation that our company enjoys in China, including among young people with a strong technological background. But the award is of course also an acknowledgment of the work of each and every employee, who through their daily effort and application ensure the highest quality standards of our products and our fine business results. Our staff members themselves are very proud of this award. It goes without saying that it is an ideal climax for our jubilee year.”

For years now, Xian-Janssen has been ranked as the most important joint venture in China and is still today the largest mixed pharmaceutical company in the country, with a sales volume of over USD 350mn. The company has consistently been rated among the top 10 in China as far as reputation and employer desirability are concerned.
In 1985 a contract was signed between Janssen Pharmaceutica, which holds 52% of the shares, and four Chinese government companies, namely Shaanxi Han Jiang Pharmaceutical Ltd. (4.8%), Shaanxi Pharmaceutical Industry Corporation (33.6%), China National Pharmaceutical Industry Corporation (5.76%), and China National Pharmaceutical Foreign Trade Corporation (3.84%).
Xian-Janssen currently counts more than 2000 employees at the production site in Xian, the head office in Beijing, and the five distribution centers spread across the country.
