Each year Janssen
Pharmaceutica goes looking for more
than sixty recent graduates with a
degree in Chemistry to staff the various
positions needed in Research, Quality
Assurance, Quality Control and other
departments.
Unfortunately, given the ever-dwindling
number of students entering a degree
course in chemistry, we are finding
it increasingly difficult to fill
the many vacancies.

|
| To succeed in our recruitment
goals despite these odds, we organize Laboratory
Technician Days and give students an opportunity
to become acquainted with Janssen Pharmaceutica
and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research
& Development (J&JPRD) even before
they graduate. During these events, final
year students are likewise screened with a
view to future job vacancies. |

On December 4 we organized
the first Laboratory Technician Day
for final year students at the Kempen
Catholic Technical College of Geel.
Success was assured from the outset:
49 of the 51 students who had received
an invitation to attend actually came.
They were accompanied by two of their
lecturers. |
|
| |
| The Public Relations department
gave the students an overview of the history,
business processes and most important research
areas of Janssen Pharmaceutica. This was followed
by a guided tour of the company and the final
year students were given the opportunity to
put questions to the various department heads.
Several young Janssen employees who had graduated
from the Kempen Catholic Technical College
gave an account of their first steps and experiences
in the company. |

 |
|
Via an initial open house
interview with a member of the Human
Resources department or a line manager,
we tried to gain an insight into the
interests and expectations of the students.
For each of them a preliminary job application
file was prepared. |

| |
This will enable us in the
course of the second semester, and after
reviewing the current job vacancies, to
contact selected students again for an interview
with the heads of the recruiting departments.
If this selection round has a positive outcome,
the successful applicants will be offered
a contract and they can take the first steps
of their career at Janssen Pharmaceutica.
Janssen Pharmaceutica offers job seekers
a challenging and exciting position with
a renowned international company at a competitive
and attractive salary.
As a chemistry graduate, for example, you
will have the opportunity for growth, and
after a few years for promotion to the position
of Senior Assistant Researcher, with the
possibility of independently setting up
and conducting scientific experiments.
