Neurology/Epilepsy

Epilepsy is defined as a continuing tendency to have epileptic seizures. An epileptic seizure can result in a general stiffening and violent shaking of the body (a convulsion) or one of many other sudden, brief abnormal events due to unpredictable bursts of electrical activity in the brain. Seizures may affect the entire brain (generalised seizures) or be contained in a specific part of the brain (partial or focal seizures).

About 3% of the population will experience two or more epileptic seizures during their lifetime. The frequency and severity of seizures correlates with both the cost of helping the patient and their quality of life. Unfortunately, uncontrolled seizures can also be the cause of many serious accidents and even sudden death.
