Neurology/Alzheimer's disease
The despairing cry from patients and families of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) is fast becoming a worldwide clamour as the ageing of populations continues to accelerate. By 2004, the over-75 age group in Europe, the USA and Japan is expected to exceed 51 million - an increase of 31% over a decade.
The prevalence of AD in subjects over 65 in these countries is currently estimated to be 7.5-9%, thrusting AD into the spotlight as a disease urgently requiring effective therapies to reduce the burden of human suffering.
Fungal infections

Alzheimer's disease, a progressive form of dementia, is often associated with a group of symptoms which are evident as disturbances in behaviour. These symptoms often include severe agitation. In addition, deteriorating cognitive abilities make the sufferer increasingly dependent upon outside help and caregivers.
